About Learner Licence
The learner licence theory test is a computer-based, 35-question multiple-choice test of road rules and safe driving practice, and you need at least 32 correct to pass. That is a demanding margin, three wrong answers is the whole allowance, and most failures come from the same handful of topics: the 2012 give way rules, default speed limits, and signs people recognise but cannot name. Asessly practises all of them in the same short-question format, with an explanation on every answer.

Questions about Asessly itselfWhat is on the New Zealand learner licence theory test?
The learner licence theory test is a computer-based, 35-question multiple-choice test of road rules and safe driving practice, and you need at least 32 correct to pass.
Which topics fail the most people?
The 2012 give way rules, default speed limits, and signs people recognise but cannot name. Three wrong answers is the whole allowance, so the topics you are unsure about matter more than usual.
Are these the official Road Code test questions?
No. They are original Asessly questions written from the publicly available Road Code. We do not issue driver licences or administer the theory test.
How is this different from the free practice sites?
Every Asessly answer carries an explanation, including why each wrong option is wrong. A question you got right by guessing is a gap, and an answer key alone will not show you that.
How many times can I sit the theory test?
As often as you need. Your licence application fee covers your first theory test and a second attempt if you need one; from the third test onwards each sitting is charged separately at NZTA's current test fee. You book through a driver licensing agent rather than online.
What do I need to bring to sit the real test?
Identification and eligibility requirements are set by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi. Check the current requirements on their site before you book, since these change.
