About Food Safety (SSS)
The Food Act 2014 takes a risk-based approach: higher-risk businesses operate under a food control plan, and MPI's Simply Safe & Suitable template is the standard plan for food service and food retail: restaurants, cafés, takeaways and caterers. The plan has to be accessible to all staff and is checked by a verifier, so the knowledge is not the manager's alone. Asessly practises the day-to-day content: temperature control, cooling and reheating, cross-contamination, cleaning and sanitising, allergens, and the records the plan requires.

Common questions
About Food Safety (SSS) and how Asessly prepares you for it.
Questions about Asessly itselfWhat is a Simply Safe and Suitable food control plan?
A template food control plan published by the Ministry for Primary Industries that many New Zealand food businesses operate under. It sets out what a business must do to make and sell food that is safe and suitable.
What does Asessly cover for food safety?
The practical knowledge a food control plan depends on: temperature control, cleaning and sanitising, personal hygiene, allergen management, traceability and record keeping, all under the Food Act 2014.
Does Asessly register my food business or verify my plan?
No. We are not affiliated with the Ministry for Primary Industries, and Asessly practice does not register a business or verify a food control plan. Registration and verification go through MPI and your verifier.
Who needs to know this?
Anyone responsible for food safety in a New Zealand food business, including owners, managers and staff who handle food under a food control plan.
Is there an exam to sit for a Simply Safe and Suitable plan?
No, and that is worth being clear about. There is no test. You register your plan with your registration authority — your council, or MPI — and you must then be verified within six weeks of registering, giving your verifier access to the facilities and records they need. Records have to be kept for at least four years. Asessly practises the food safety knowledge verification checks you are applying, rather than preparing you for an examination that does not exist.
Are these official assessment questions?
No. They are original Asessly questions written from publicly available MPI requirements and the Food Act 2014.
